Bible Dreams

"God has departed from me, and answers me no more, neither by prophets, nor by dreams." (1 Samuel 28:15)

Dreams play an important role in the Bible. They are an instrument for divine revelation and not for divination. The Bible shows the dream as a spiritual vision provoked by God that needs a right interpretation by the human.
Joseph was hated by his brothers because of his dreams, but his ability to interpret dreams will save them and their whole people from starving. [Joseph dreamed a dream, and he told it to his brothers, and they hated him all the more. Genesis 37:5] Daniel, who "had understanding in all visions and dreams", is an outstanding example that the gift of right dream interpretation is given to prophets only.
Throughout the Bible God chooses to communicate through dreams, but not only reaching out to his people and followers but also to believers of another faith, thus to Pharaoh or to the Babylonian king Nebuchadnezzar.
Many times dreams are warnings and still give us the possibiltiy to act on our own. The right acting after the dream is then the true fullfilment of the dream, as Joseph's readiness to flight to Egypt with Mary and Jesus. (see: Matthew)
