Stages of Sleep

The stages through which a person passes when asleep. It is recognised that there are 5 stages of spleep (including REM).
Stage 1: light sleep
Stage 2: eye movements cease and there is less brain wave
Stage 3: really slow brain waves, also known as Delta Waves, making up 50% of the total recorded brain activity
Stage 4: there is an exclusive production of Delta Waves by the brain.
Stages 3 and 4 is what is known as deep sleep. At these stages there are no eye movement or muscle activity.
